Korea's Government Approves Apple iPhone Sales

The Korea Communications Commission announced on September 23 that it has given formal approval for Apple to sell iPhone in Korea through Korean telecom operator SK Telecom, shaking up its mobile phone market dominated by Korean domestic manufacturers Samsung and LG, the Chosun Ilbo News reported on September 24. The Commission stated that iPhone is slated for official launch some time in November 2009 after negotiations over pricing for iPhone are completed. Meanwhile, SK Telecom is yet to disclose whether the company will offer subsidies for iPhone purchases or not. Further details regarding the official release date and pricing of iPhone were not yet disclosed either. To date, there is around 93% of Korea's population subscribing to a mobile service, according to the same source.
